One would think that the areas around a Police station are the secured ones but then you can’t be more wrong. Two robberies have taken place around areas of Margao close to where the police station is located. On Sunday night, thieves broke into a security agency and an advertising agency which was nearly 300 metres away from the South Goa Police headquarters in Margao.
Another robbery that was reported by the Carmel College took place within just 100 metres from the same police headquarters. All the said happenings took place on Sunday night. The accused in the robbery was identified as a 28 year old Alex Mathew Surya, a native from Bangalore. Surya was nabbed on Monday morning by using CCTV footage. Further interrogation with Surya revealed that he was involved in other cases of robberies in past in Goa
The stolen things include, one laptop, one cellphone and around Rs 42,000 in cash. The accused in the Carmel College case was caught at Baradi in Betul at around 10.30am by the Cuncolim police. The college falls in the jurisdiction of the Maina-Curtorim police station.
In the case of robbery at the security office, the office of the security agency was in the Regency Plaza building. The building is behind police headquarters and also the office of of Anchor Advertising in the Supreme Bombi Plaza building is just meters away from the place. In the robbery at the security office, a total of Rs 38000 was stolen from the office of the security agency while Rs 4,000 was stolen from the office of Anchor Advertising, as told by the Margao police inspector (PI) C L Patil.
In another case of robbery, overseas consultant office in the Supreme Bombi Plaza building was targeted however the owner did not lodge a complaint for it. Patil said that there were no CCTV cameras installed in the place.
