The department of civil supplies and consumer affairs has asked all the Goans to get their ration cards updated with the latest details as soon as possible in order to continue their supplies. This updation shall include any type of addition in the cards, deletion, eliminating the name of any dead persona and similar changes as required.
The changes in the ration card can be done by approaching the concerned taluka inspector within a period of 60 days. The decision to get the cards updated with latest information has been taken after finding out that many families have been getting supplies through cards that are not for them in terms of eligibility. Families with income more than 5 Lakhs have the APL (Above Poverty Line) cards for which they are not eligible. There are other ineligible beneficiaries as well like government employees holding the PHH Cards ( Priority Household).
In many cases there are various families who are getting supplies on the cards which are made under the name of deceased and no changes in the registration have been made yet. The department is currently working on collecting records of the deceased people who have ration cards in their name.
The extent of deceiving activities in ration card supplies has went so much as that there are third party people who are taking supplies on cards of certain people and families who are not currently residing in Goa. The department will soon initiate action against such people and the benefits will be taken away soon.
