Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar was recently present at the inauguration of the state level workshop on national ‘nutrition week’ organized by Goa College of Home Science in Miramar where he said that the Goan population receive food that is higher in nutrition than the other parts of India. In support of the statement he said that this is because the food that is distributed in Goa is from the anganwadi kendras and hence provide better nutrition than other states.
The National Nutrition Week is being observed in the country till the 7th of September 2017. The theme for this year has been decided as optimal infant and young child feeding practices: better child health. The week is observed every year with the aim to spread awareness about good nutrition and its importance for every age and in every field of life.
The week is celebrated in various institutions including schools and colleges by way of planned activities and different functions. Tendulkar talked about the importance of the week saying, “The basic objective of the annual event is to intensify awareness generation on the importance of nutrition for health which has an impact on development, productivity, economic growth and ultimately national development.”
