The festival of Eid-Ul-Zuha witnessed a massive sacrifice of around 107 bovines in the state of Goa. As per the provisions of the state, the sacrifices are compulsory made in the meat complex. The number of sacrifice saw a steep rise as compared to the processions of the previous year.
On the occasion of Bakri Eid, there were are a total of 275 bovines who were procured and amongst this, a total of 107 bovines were sacrificed. The sacrifice is part of the custom. The total number of members which were slaughtered are 107 while the same stood at 77 and 36 for the years 2016 and 2015 respectively.
NGO Govansh Raksha Abhiyan that works in the area of Valpoi has suggested that the reason behind the rise in the numbers is because of the recent relaxation in the age of animals to be brought for sacrifice. Earlier, only animals above the age of 12 years were allowed to be brought for sacrifice but now this limit has been relaxed. The same could have resulted in the increase in numbers.
